After gymnastics class today (he jumps now. unafraid. on the trampoline. he doesn't jump well - more like a drunk - but he jumps. 'nough said), Smacky and I wandered in to the nearby thrift store. I've never been in one before - and had no idea what to expect. Basically, it's like a giant, well-organized garage sale. With all proceeds to go to charity, of course. And though at first I felt uncomfortable, unsure of where to look and what to even look for, it wasn't long before I hit my stride. I now understand the thrill of thrifting and how it can become addicting. Mostly all of the stuff in there - with a little clever thought and some love - could be refashioned into something useful and nice, interesting, or even fantastic.
Here's my score:
The fabric on the bottom? A lovely pillowcase to be washed and used for quilting. The bowl? A handmade ceramic piece - created by a definite beginner - but in a pretty color. It's for my studio, to hold this and that. And the ribbon rolls? Ten cents a piece. Can't beat that with a stick.
Somewhere in the middle of my treasure hunt a very bored Smacky let out with a blood-curdling LET'S GO TO THE CAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRR which turned many a head and prompted me to quickly wheel our little cart over to the toy section because we simply couldn't leave just yet. Not five seconds into the aisle he pointed UP THERE! And this still-working Blues Clues radio was probably the best 69 cents I've ever spent. It kept him quiet the rest of the trip, and now that I think about it, the rest of the day.
Then I stumbled upon this metal tray table. Is it not adorable?
Total spent at checkout: $3.71. How fun!
